Its glass transition temperature is approx 105 deg c ( 221 deg f) making it an ideal material for water heaters.

Stainless steel does not readily corrode, rust or stain with water as ordinary steel does, but despite the name it is not fully stain-proof, most notably under low oxygen, high salinity, or poor circulation environments. 300 series—the most widely used austenite steel is 304, also known as 18/8 for its composition of 18% chromium and 8% nickel.

Ketko uses only ss 304 for inner tanks , water pipes , heater plates that can withstand the high water pressure that water heaters are subjected to, whereas many brands have shifted to using M.S. ( mild steel ) in place of stainless steel 304 as a cost saving measure-- hence compromising on quality with respect to service life as well as performance.

Heater plate holds the heart and brain of the water heater; the heart being the heating element that heats water and the brain being the thermostat and thermal cutout that control the working of the heating element . The fusible plug, the ultimate safety to prevent temperature build-up in the water heater is also mounted on the heater plate it's the heater plate that is subjected to high water pressure at all times and also is required for servicing of the inner tank and hence provided with 12 holes which are bolted in place with stainless steel bolts.

Considering the above functions , the heater plate is designed and manufactured using high quality ss 304 super heavy gauge 1.6mm thick plate , embossed , pierced ,flared , tig welded with stainless steel pipes for water inlet and outlet.

Digitron circuit incorporates microcontroller. Thermistor sensors are used to sense the temperature of the water and the data is read by the microcontroller

When the thermistor sensor senses the temperature of water, it transfers the same to the microcontroller if you have set the temp say 42 deg C , when the water reaches 42 deg C ,the information is transferred from the thermister to the micro processor. The micro processor reads this 42 deg C actual temp and compares it with the set temp. 42 deg C and informs the electrical relay to switch off and disconnect the electrical power to the heating element. When the water temperature drops below the set temperature, the thermister senses this and informs the microprocessor which keeps comparing the set temp with the actual temp

The term multi phase means more than 1 phase or more than single phase. Single phase electrical connection can provide maximum upto 12 kwatt of power in most cases I.E. In a household that has an electrical meter of 60 amp and 3 phase wiring and if they install a water heater with 12 kwatt heating power on a single phase the other 2 phase will get unbalanced since the others will not be loaded with a similar load.

However in case of multiphase water heaters the same load of 12 kwatt is divided in the 3 phase as 4 kwatt per phase hence creating a balance on the meter for uniform consumption.

Also when higher heating of say 18 kwatt is needed then the same load is divided as 6 kwatt per phase and this results in better distribution.

Where are 3phase ( multiphase water heaters needed ) ?

When the volume of hot water requirement is very high in terms of quantity and in terms of litres / minute then our regular single phase storage water heaters are not able to provide the hot water needs at high flow rate means at high speeds.

For example , if a consumer needs 7 litres of hot water per minute for 20 minutes that means totally he needs 140 litres of hot water. In this case he can install a 140 litre 3 kwatt magnus storage water heater which will take approx. 149 minutes to heat up.

However the limitations are as follows:

1. he will have to wait for 149 minutes to get his required qty of hot water
2. once the 140 litres is consumed in 20 minutes he will again have to wait for another 140 minutes for the next round of 140 litres of hot water that he needs
3. incase he wants to increase his flow rate I.E. If he needs 10 litres of hot water for 20 minutes the this cannot happen since the 140 litre water heater can provide only 140 litres of hot water hence after 14 minutes he will have to put off the tap for the water to heat again or else install a 200 litres water heater.

Incase of a multi phase the consumer can choose to install a35 litres 18 kwatt that can provide12 litres / minute ( running flow) with15.5 litres/ minute ( for initial 10 minutes )initial heating time ( 24 minutes only as compared to 149 minutes of 140 litres ) additional the same can be controlled as per requirement of 6 , 12 , 18 kwatt as per need.

The multiphase feature is available in ketko magnus multiphase storage water heater and ketko capri digi mega models. The heater is fixed with 3 miniature circuit breaker switches ( 4kwatt, 8 kwatt/12 kwatt). You can select the kw power you need by simply selecting an option of 3 selector switches which allows you to pre-set the temperature and heating power. By increasing the kw power, you can extend your bathing time.

Ketko offers this feature ideal for multi jet shower panels , bathtub, jacuzzis and spas.

Fusible plug (not provided by many brands) is the ultimate safety mechanism to prevent temperature build-up inside water heater. It consists of 4 parts- 1) stainless steel fusible threaded tube welded on the heater plate 2) high quality brass fusible disc holder 3) fusible disc alloy that fits inside the brass tube and 4) plastic tube that that is fitted on to the brass body .

If by any chance, water temperature inside inner tank crosses 90 degrees centigrade, the low melting fusible disc alloy melts and water releases out through the brass body and the plastic tube thus diffusing temperature and pressure build-up.

These parts act as the brain of the water heater. Most materials are subject to thermal expansion: a tendency to expand when heated, and to contract when cooled.

A thermostat switch is a combination of stem of brass tube (high thermal expansion alloy) and nickel-iron wire (very low thermal expansion alloy) is used to operate a high-precision micro-gap switch. Switch contacts open when temperature of brass stem exceeds the set temperature & close when temperature drops by the differential temperature.

The thermostat is normally set between 55 deg c to 65 deg c . When the water temp in the tank reaches temp set between this range, the thermostat operates by switching off the electrical supply to the heating element and thus stop the water heater from heating further and vice versa. When temperature falls below set temperature, the thermostat switches again and water heating resumes.

If by any chance the thermostat fails to operate, the thermal cut-out activates switching off the electrical supply to the heating element and thus stop the water heater from heating further. However, the thermal cut-out will not start automatically again once the temperature of water falls below the pre-set temperature and hence has to be manually reset. If this happens repeatedly, then the user should contact the service centre.

Heavy duty high pressure safety valve automatically releases excess pressure from the water tank thus preventing pressure build up.

Safety valve body incorporated by ketko comprises of 5 parts . The main body is made of extruded high quality brass and brass rubber seal holder and brass set screw. In addition there is a rubber seal and a stainless steel spring . The combination of these five parts ensures that whenever water pressure exceeds safety limits, the water pushes the rubber seal . This in turn pushes the spring in a compressive action and hence allows water to be released thru the escape hole provided on the main body of the safety valve . When water pressure returns to normal the spring goesback to its original expanded position and the rubber seal blocks the water flow

There are 4 valves incorporated – safety release valve which releases the water from the inner tank when the pressure inside the tank or inlet is more than 1bar of the rated pressure. The vacuum valve ensures there is no vacuum build-up inside the tank as otherwise water flow into the inner tank will stop. Also prevents tank from collapsing due to vaccum. The non-return valve stops water from escaping into the inlet of the inner tank while the drainage valve as the name suggests helps drain out water.

The bureau of energy efficiency (bee) has started a national education programme on star labelling which certifies electrical applicances with different star rating depending on electric savings.The bee star energy efficiency labels have been created to standardize the energy efficiency ratings of different water heaters and indicate energy consumption under standard test conditions.The bee star labels include a star rating system that ranges from one star (least energy efficient, thus least money saved) to five stars (most energy efficient, thus most money saved)
